4-Ingredient Sausage Queso

Itā€™s a quick and easy cheese dip appetizer recipe that uses 4 simple ingredients! All of which you can grab at your local grocery store. I havenā€™t met a person that doesnā€™t love queso! Itā€™s such an easy appetizer to bring for a big game dayĀ or even for Christmas! This recipe doesnā€™t use any fake cheese like a lot of recipes do. So you can feel good about what youā€™re eating too! This is a one-pan recipe, making clean-up a breeze!

Kitchen Tools

  • Skillet – I use stainless steel pans mostly. They’re a nontoxic option and durable! I can’t link the set we have (they’re from 12 years ago from our honeymoon). But there are tons of options online!
  • Grater (optional) – You can opt to buy already shredded cheese, but it’s cheaper and a healthier option to buy cheese in the blocks and grate it yourself.
  • Meat Chopper (optional) – I received one of these as a gift and there’s no going back! I get so frustrated breaking up meat in the pan now if I don’t have this thing!

Ingredients

  • Ground Sausage – Adding meat to this cheese dip makes it a little more filling and adds so much flavor!
  • Cream Cheese – This gives it a nice creamy texture.
  • Colby Jack Cheese – You can use any cheese you want, but I love the flavor this combo gives.
  • Salsa (Medium) – You can use any kind of salsa. I use the medium to give a little spice, but not so much that my kids won’t eat it.

How to Make 4-Ingredient Sausage Queso

  1. Cook SausageĀ ā€“ Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Drain GreaseĀ ā€“ After browning the sausage, drain the grease well. Use a bowl with paper towels and drain as much of the grease as you can. Be careful to not burn yourself. Place back in the skillet once drained. You can also use paper towels to absorb some of the grease in the pan.
  3. Add Cream CheeseĀ ā€“ Mix in the cream cheese with the sausage until well combined. You can cube the cream cheese into small pieces before adding it to decrease the melting time.
  4. Shred Cheese/Add CheeseĀ ā€“ If youā€™re using a block of cheese shred it or cube it. It will take longer to melt if you cube it. If youā€™re using already shredded cheese just add it to the cream cheese and sausage mixture until melted and combined.
  5. Add SalsaĀ ā€“ Next, add in your choice jar of salsa and mix until combined.
  6. ServeĀ ā€“ Serve your sausage queso cheese dip with your favorite tortilla chips, vegetables, or whatever tickles your fancy, and enjoy! An easy way to transport this dip and keep warm is to place it in a small slow cooker.

  • If you want more of a taco flavor, add in some DIY taco seasoning!

How to Reheat Leftover Dip

Just transfer the queso cheese dip to a small sauce pan and heat on stove over low to medium heat and be sure to stir frequently.
